Work permits for skilled construction and manufacturing workers in the GTA region
Because of labour marker shortages, in 2001, the Greater Toronto Home Builders’ Association and the Federal Government signed a memorandum of understanding to streamline the process of hiring temporary foreign workers to meet the construction industry’s need for a skilled workforce. The agreement allows for the entry of qualified foreign construction workers to address the current demand for the following trades: bricklayers, carpenters, skilled labourers, cement finishers, framers, concrete forming carpenters, drywallers, tile setters, residential or commercial installers. You must have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer within the GTA region to qualify. Many workers successfully renew their work permits for subsequent years. Our office has experience dealing with this type of application.
The other category includes tool and die makers, die finishers, die makers, jig makers, metal mould makers and metal patternmakers with a minimum of 5 years experience.
